I started volunteering at the Quincy Animal shelter after my husband and I found out that we wouldn’t be able to have kids. We were devastated by the news as we had been together for a long time. But, after days and months working at the shelter, the devastating feelings went away. I think it was meant to happen that way

Working at the shelter was great but I decided to apply to Petco where I was trained as a pet groomer by a very skilled trainer. This was the best decision I ever made as I learned a great deal and I finally found my passion.

As the years went by, I kept thinking, “As much fun this is, I want to be my own boss.” So my husband, Ed, and I  decided to put my dream into motion.  We both buckled down for the next three years and paid off most of our debt.  The dream  of becoming my own boss was getting closer.  We looked in Quincy for land and/or a building where I could build my own pet grooming business but there were so many codes and regulations that it was difficult to find something in our price range. That was frustrating!

One evening as I was driving home from work along Highway 28, I spied a For Sale sign on a van which is now the Poochie Do mobile. I got home and quickly told Ed about it, we both went and looked. This was it. We contacted the number on the vehicle and thankfully we had enough to purchase this vehicle.  Two days later we brought the vehicle  home to start work on it. I then gave my notice to my employer and 3 months later Poochie Do’s was born!

Oh my goodness! I just couldn’t believe it!

The van was mine in March 2017. Ed and I gutted it and Ed did his magic and created the interior of Poochie Do’s with it’s spacious wash tub, and grooming station.  We both worked together to get it done on time.  I was up and running on June 7th, 2017.  I haven’t looked back once!

Best decision I ever made.

Lots of hiccups as most know (lol) but you know what? It doesn’t matter ’cause I am happy. My customers are happy and life is too short for second guesses. I just didn’t want to look back and say to myself. Could of…should of…didn’t. so I did.
